Mangia! Mangia!

by Don on June 19, 2009

Earlier this year our daughter had been spending a semester abroad, in Rome. During mid-April we finally got the chance to go and visit with her. We spent some time with her, taking in the sights of Rome, and then we made our way north for a 3-night stay in the Tuscany region – in the little hilltop village of Panzano in Chianti.

Not that I didn’t enjoy the time visiting with our daughter, but I could have spent more time in this little Tuscan hide-away, eating Italian food and sipping on Chianti.

We had an especially good time at the Villa Cafaggio Vineyard. If you go, hopefully Elisa will still be there.  She is extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and is the one who provided our tour of the vineyard and winery.

We stayed at a great little B & B called Fagiolari that my wife happened upon when scouring the Internet. What a find indeed. She had selected it because it offered cooking classes, which is something she new I would enjoy.

Enjoy it I did! Actually we both enjoyed it, even though I do most of the cooking here.

Fagiolari is owned and operated by Giulietta Giovannoni and not only is she a great hostess, this woman can cook! Her cooking classes are extremely popular, having been written up, along with the B & B, within many travel guides.

Our cooking classes were on the last two nights we were there. Starting around 5PM, we were the ones preparing each evening’s 4-courses for ourselves and the other B&B guests. I must say, we really impressed ourselves by how everything looked and tasted.

Other guests during our stay included a couple from France, and as luck would have it, another couple from the United States, Tom and Carin Roy. Tom is president and founder of Unlimited Potential, Inc. (UPI). Tom literally travels all over the world organizing Christian-based baseball clinics and it’s really incredible to see and read about what they’re doing.  Both he and Carin have become good friends and great fans of Giuliette and Fagiolari and have made staying there an annual ritual when Tom has clinics in Italy.

So how can I tie all of this in to web design?

Not that I have to tie it all in, but I’m thinking maybe I could barter some SEO services for the Fagiolari website for more cooking classes and lodging…
